The Master Cleanse Diet (also called the Lemon Juice Diet) has caught on with a lot of health enthusiasts recently. The ingredients of the diet are as simple as they are effective. Lemon, purified water, grade B maple syrup and cayenne pepper. Today, however, I want to look at a few of the many health benefits of cayenne pepper.
Cayenne is More Than a Spice
Although many people are only grateful for cayenne pepper for the heat it gives them in Buffalo wings, its health benefits are less appreciated. Variously known as Guinea spice, bird pepper and red pepper- this spice can have a profound impact on your health if you make it a regular part of your diet.
Although rich in vitamin A, and containing other nutritional ingredients such as vitamin E and potassium, cayenne pepper is not generally impactful as a nutritional food. That is because we use it so sparingly on our food or as an ingredient. Don’t feel bad about that though. Cayenne pepper is said to be an effective aphrodisiac, containing rich amounts of capsaicin.
Cayenne pepper is also an effective topical rub. Because of the heat it produces, again from capsaicin, it helps relieve muscle and joint pain when applied directly.
Great Benefit to Internal Cleansing
But, as an internal body cleansing agent, cayenne pepper shines! Let’s start with the common cold. Cayenne pepper is very effective at breaking up and expelling mucus from the body. It also increases the rate of our lymphatic and digestive rhythms, which in turn stimulates the natural detoxification of our bodies.
Cayenne pepper is also well-known for aiding digestion by stimulating the production of enzymes and gastric juices. This in turn makes for the easier breaking down of foods and putting less stress on the digestive system.
Many people with mild forms of high blood pressure and cholesterol also use cayenne as a home remedy. I would not recommend you doing that unless your physician approves it.
Those are just a few of the health benefits of cayenne pepper. Whether you do or do not practice the Master Cleanse Diet (Lemon Juice Diet), cayenne pepper should be a part of your regular health plan.
